Confirming the forename and date of baptism
« on: Friday 26 January 18 01:29 GMT (UK) »
The attached clipping and the last entry appears to be for a baptism for a daughter of John MASON and his wife Elleanor.  The child's name appears to be Friswid with baptism 20 Mar 1697.

If the forename is Friswid she has a sister Frisworth.

Your opinion?

Could well be Friswid!    Reckon you have the date right.

Wonder where they found the names . . .  what part of the country is it from?   Sounds Scandinavian, so ?  Up north?

Was Frisworth born on a different date?   ;D  I notice she is the mother of Ellin in your other clip.

I think the forename is either Fraswid or possibly Fraiswid.

Either way it's still a variant on Frideswide:

As Wiggy says, the date is right.

Thanks so much one and all.

There was a burial of a Frisworth in Whissendene, Rutland 6 Jul 1701 and a baptism of  Frisworth Aug 1705 same father. [Old style dating]

Your opinion: it seems to be that Friswid and Frisworth [bap 20 Mar 1697 and bur 6 Jul 1701] are highly likely to be one and the same???

And that a subsequent baptism of Frisworth 5 Aug 1705 is the next same named child?

It's quite plausible, and if you know these were the only parents in the parish with matching names then it's more than plausible.

I see no problem with taking Fraswid/Frisworth as variants on the same name.

Thanks HD.  I have looked through the records and it seems that at the period covered by this research there was one John MASON and one with a wife of Elleanor/Eleanor.

I will add a note to my file referencing the apparent anomaly.
