I notice that a William Flavell was buried aged 6 days at Gornall on 1 Feb 1846 (abode Gornall Wood).  Death reg at Dudley.

So perhaps the 1871 finding is not the William whose birth was registered Mar qtr 1846?

(Though there is another William Flavill birth reg Mar qtr 1846 Dudley - mmn Leavons.)

Umm there are two WILLIAM flavells born Mar qtr 1846 one mother FLAVELL one motherl Leavons the mother Flavell fits the child with B&S in 1871 so well must chase the LEAVONs one a bit to see if he survived Good spot all the children we know about are in the Kingswinfors area but the four parents are all from the Sedgley area and are taken back there for burial.

Looking in the 1851 census for boys named William Flavel(l),  born in Sedgley circa 1846, there are 3 candidates, all in Gornal Wood.  One aged 7 has parents Thomas and Mary, another aged 5 has parents William & Hannah, and the third one is aged 4 and has parents William and Mary.

The first and the third appear to be still with their parents in 1871. The second one might be worth researching.

I wonder whether mmn Leavons on the rival Mar qtr 1846 William Flavill birth reg should in fact be Jeavon(s)?  This seems to be the maiden name of Hannah who married William Flavell at Dudley, 14 July 1834.

So their son could be ShaunJ’s second William - hence not deceased in infancy.

To add to the confusion I now know a James FLAVELL married an Eliza FLAVELL in Sedgley 2 Oct 1836 ( Free Reg) The witnesses were the same as for Benjamin and SARAH'S MARRIAGE AND AN eliza witnessed Edmond and Mary's marriage so there must be a tie up but I have not found either a James or Eliza in the twi families I thought were involved with the Benjamin and sarah and Emmund and Mary couples. more problematic FAMILY search batch C05928-1 has four children baptised for the couple BUT these do not appear on Free Reg and two of the dates are too close to be siblings How much credance can you give to such batch numbers on Family Search In the good old days of The Hugh Wallis list I thought these codes represented exttracted from regisers and therefore reliable, has that now changed?Name:
Fanny Flavell
Birth Date: 28 Apr 1839
Christening Date: 23 Jun 1839
Death Date: 16 Feb 1840
Christening Place: GORNALL,STAFFORD,ENGLAND THIS ONE IS ALSO ON FREE REG FOR LOWER GORNAL

Betsey Flavell
Birth Date: 01 Feb 1843
Christening Date: 21 May 1843
Christening Place: GORNALL,STAFFORD,ENGLAND

Name: William Flavell
Birth Date: 27 Jan 1846
Christening Date: 27 Jan 1846
Christening Place: GORNALL,STAFFORD,ENGLAND

but it still begs the question where was he in 1851 and 1861 and why was he Benjamin's son in 1871  ???

Name: Sarah Flavell
Birth Date: 11 May 1846
Christening Date: 07 Feb 1847
Christening Place: GORNALL,STAFFORD,ENGLAND

All the above to James and Eliza FLAVELL Surely Sarah and William can not be siblings so is there yet another James and Eliza in the mix??? SO which are Eliza nee Flavell's children is this the missing William who turns up as son of Benjamin in 1871??
Now I need to  find who James and Eliza FLAVELL were!!!

James was son of William Flavell and Elizabeth nee COLLINs which would explain the Collins wittnessing the marriage of James and Eliza but I have yet to connect this couple to Benjamin et al
However the baptism shown on Family Search was on the day the child was born and Free Reg has a death 1 feb 1846 for him

So he wasn't the William who suddenly appears in 1871 as son of Benjamin Flavell age25
Were on earth was he in 1851 and 1861 and who was his father??

Update on this strange family situation
Today I found a baptism for Eliza the wife of James and she turns out to be a sister of Sarah and Mary who married the brothers Benjamin and Edmund so this explains why James and Eliza and Benjamin and Sarah had the same witnesses and it looks like James's wife Eliza witnessed Edmund and Mary's marriage. All three couples named their first daughter Fanny... well that is if Benjamin and Edmund both had daughters as Benjamin had a daughter Fanny on the 1851 census and a niece the same age on the 1861 So I am not sure if its one or two girls. Anyway the girls were daughters of Fanny nee Jones
I am still trying to find where William was before and after 1871 and desperate for help in finding him.
