Marriage Record: Caroline Zamett in India (?)
« on: Friday 26 January 18 15:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi  :)

I'm looking to find the first marriage of a Caroline Zammett or Zemmit. I have her second and third marriage:

Caroline Kelly (Father is listed as J. Zammet) to Enoch Morecroft on 14 Jan 1875 in Dinapore, India. Year of Birth is listed as 1850.

Caroline Moriroft (Morecroft) (Father is listed as Joseph Zemmit) to James Brown on 12 May 1881 in Colabah, India. Year of Birth is listed as 1852.

She was listed as a Widow on both of these marriages.

I've searched for marriages between both the surnames Zammet and Kelly, and Zemmit and Kelly with name variants on, but I haven't been able to find anything. She may have married in the UK but I haven't been able to find anything there either. I've Googled the surname and it suggests 'Zammit' instead, saying it is a Maltese/Tunisian surname.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is she Catherine or Caroline  :-\

It might be an idea if you go back in and change your original post and heading  ;)

Thank you for pointing that out, I have changed both. Not sure how I managed to write two different names!

She was probably the widow of Sergeant Robert Kelly of the 109th Regiment who died in Dinapore in April 1874. Enoch Morecroft was in the same regiment.

Zammit is a Maltese name, I think.

I've found a baptism record for Caroline and Robert's daughter in Fermoy Union Workhouse, Ireland in 1871. Unexpected find!
