Marriage and/or 1841 census for Morgan Davies
« on: Friday 26 January 18 19:05 GMT (UK) »
I have the death certificate for what I think is my 4xG Grandmother, Gwenllian Davies, who died 8 Dec 1849 at Village, Aberdare, aged 68.  She is described as the widow of Thomas Davies, Collier, and the informant was Morgan Davies in attendance, Twynyrotin (sic), Merthyr Tydfil.

There are a few possibilities for Morgan, but the one I think most likely is in Bedwellty in 1851 with wife Anne & family - H0107/2448/810/28 - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lex/

I'm fairly sure this family ends up in Minersville, Ohio by 1860, but I cant find them in 1841, nor can I find a suitable marriage between Morgan & Ann.  Can anyone help?
MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

There is an Alice Davies age 6 born Aberdare with Morgan and Ann in the 1851 census. Aberdare is in the Merthyr Tydfill registration district. Searching on the GRO index brings up 2 birth registrations in Merthyr Tydfill 1845-1847 . If Alice's age is correct in 1851 then the first one is the most likely so Morgan possibly married an Anne Johnson

Alice Davies mmn James Dec 1/4 1847 Merthy Tydfill vol 26  page 384

There is a John age 0 on the 1841 census found by keyboard and there is this birth reg

Thank you everyone - that marriage definitely makes sense, as does the baptism of Ann David.

I'd looked at that many records I ended up going round in circles, but I can see now that as well as the 1831 birth of Anne there are also records for Gwenllian, William & Catherine, so the 1841 found by Keyboard could well be the right one.

EDIT Was Gwenllian the Gwenllyan Davies 55 with James Davies 25 and Anne 10 residing at Aberdare Village HO107/1420/ 1/30 / 16

Yes, that's the one.  I'm trying to 'prove' that this particular James Davies was my 3xG Grandfather and that Gwenllian was his mother, and therefore my 4xG Grandmother.  However, as they both died in 1849 - as did James' wife - I'm having to work for it!

My 2xG Grandmother was born in 1848 so lost both parents when she was just a year old, and her grandmother too if this is the right family.

The 10 year old Anne living with them is probably Morgan's daughter, who married Howell James in 1852 & moved to Minersville in 1854.   Alice Davies is lodging with them there in 1860

Thank you again, and if you spot anything else that might help, I'll gladly have it!
