William MALTBY & wife Hannah(nee Buck).

I am puzzled why I cannot find them in the 1871 & 1881 censuses.
Hannah born 1845 in Hucknall Torkard is in the 1851 Census for Hucknall Torkard with her parents Joseph & Mary & family.In 1861 she is an inmate in Basford Workhouse with her widowed father.
William Maltby born 1844 in Thrumpton married Hannah in 1865 in Basford District.
William & Hannah and family in 1891 are living in Hucknall Torkard.William died in 1895.
In 1901 & 1911 Hannah was living on her own in Hucknall Torkard.
I cannot find them in 1871 or 1881,or their children as shown in 1891,William John and Elizabeth.
I wouldn't have thought they strayed far away from Hucknall,any help would be gratefully appreciated.

In 1881 there are transcribed as Mattley on Ancestry - still in Hucknall Torkard.  (RG11; Piece: 3334; Folio: 111; Page: 44; )

And transcribed as Malky in 1871 - still in the village.

Solved in 6 minutes,Pheno,amazing,I was ages searching,deleting "exact matches",adding "sounds like",etc,etc.-all to no avail!How's it done?

Think I just did an exact search on William b. 1844 Thrumpton with no surname specified.  There weren't many results.

It looks like we may be Dobb cousins! Joseph Buck and Mary Dobb are my 3rd great-grandparents. I just discovered today that Joseph Dobb the stone mason who married Jane Bird may be Mary's brother.

Yes,indeed related-Hannah Dobb is my 4th great grandmother.
Joseph and Mary Dobb are brother and sister,both illegitimate.
My descendants are from Joseph Dobb and Jane Bird,but before the marriage Joseph had an illegitimate daughter Mary,my 2nd great grandmother!
If you haven't joined Ancestry it might be worth taking out some form of subscription.My "Green Family Tree" has a lot of detail,many others are interested in the family, and there are many old photos of Mary Buck (Dobb) her husband and children.

I do have a subscription for about another month. I do have copies of the photos of Joseph and Mary Dobb Buck. You are the only one I know about that knows Joseph and Hannah are brother and sister. I only discovered it yesterday while looking at a census and seeing that they lived next door. I can't seem to find your tree. Mine is Smedley-McCullough tree.

That's interesting that Joseph had an illegitimate daughter. One of Hannah and Thomas Meakin's daughters had several illegitimate children.  Have you made any headway on who the father is of Hannah and Joseph or if they share the same father or not?
