SOMERVILLE
« on: Saturday 27 January 18 22:43 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find out more about my SOMERVILLE family from Lanarkshire.

My ancestor Duncan SOMERVILLE was baptised 30 Dec 1821 in New Lanark, Lanarkshire to William Sommerville/Somerville and Emilia/Emily Stewart.

Duncan married Catherine MORRISON on 24 Aug 1839 in South Knapdale, Argyllshire, and was there in 1841 as a labourer. He moved with Catherine to Ontario, Canada by 1843.

It looks like Duncan had siblings about whom I know nothing:
William Sommervile 1811–
Isabella Somerville 1813–
John Somerville 1815–
James Sommervile 1817–
Thomas Somerville 1819–

I found his parents' 1810 marriage in Lanark (his mother is called Emily Stuart) but I can't find a death record for Emily/Emilia or for William, nor can I find them in the census records. I also am having trouble narrowing down the identities of Duncan's siblings - seems like there were a ton of Somervilles in the area.

Any help is really appreciated!

EDIT: I should note there's a potential baptism in some online trees for William in 1790 to Robert SOMERVILLE and Mary MATHISON, but I am skeptical because no children were named Robert or Mary.

Isabella married John Hastie and died on 11 May 1891 at Fiddlers Bridge, Carluke.  William Hastie her son was witness.  Looks like they had 9 children together.

I wonder if Walter Lang owned the factory where great-great grandmother Mary Jane Lavery worked? 160 acres was quite a spread in Dumbarton in the 1880s, no? Plus the fact that Lang was already 56yo by then and she was 25yo.
