Thanks Jebber for clarifying that. I agree they are very elusive. Even if he was at sea then his wife should be around but I have not found her for 1851 or 1861. I’m just love these brick walls.

Not a match,

There is only one death of a Samuel Austen in Dover in 1862 on freeBMD , 1st q. 1862.
So surely that has to be the one in the newspaper? The report was March 1862.

As Rosie99 says, you can do a street search on Findmypast, that is where I found the Larceny report, there is no way of being sure it is your man. I just did a general search on his name and age.

There is Ann Austin, widow, 68 years b River, near Dover living at 3 Limekiln Lane

I will check through my certificates as I’m sure I have his death certificate and identify the informer, if by chance I don’t have I will order it and update you on the information when I receive it.
I’ve checked the 1861 census and can’t find him or Ann?

I have found another newspaper story about Samuel which dates he owns some boats he rents and he was burgled. The address given was Adrian Street. The article states he lives alone. Date of article 2/3/1861 so I am now searching this address.
