I suppose we had better wait for Miriam to come back.
It is confusing now as there are a couple of Tucker brushmakers in Dublin but Joseph, if we have the right one with Esther, has a soldier father also named Joseph  :-\
The brushmakers are probably nothing to do with this family.

Hi,
This plot does thicken..........
I searched by Tucker and Colgan and saw some of the births in Ireland.
Then by Tucker and Dolan, one is in Bristol in 1899 24th Dec.
Parents Frederick and Jane Dolan.
Also.
There is a Thomas Tucker and a Jane Dolan in Dublin in 1865.
They were in North King Street. (this is whre Dunnes store car park is now)

these 2 are the correct Tuckers, Joseph was born in England.

Yes those are the ones I cited earlier.
I would say it is safe to disregard Frederick P, the son of John and Martha from Bristol.

I have checked the Tucker/Colgan births and all those show father as Joseph.

Miriam,
Where do you have Joseph as Frederick, other than that baptism?

Additionally, if this is your family, there is a child Kate b 1905 who died 1906 as Catherine. You may not have her because she is not in any census.

I'm confident in the baptism record as it fits too much of what I already know. Far too much coincidence that there happened to be another Joseph Tucker who was baptised as an adult in Rathmines. He married Esther in the May.

I only have Frederick Joseph showing in the baptism record. He was always known as Joseph but not unusual for people to go by middle names.

I don't think they're connected to the brushmakers, there was never any mention of that although there was mention of him being at various times a groom, coachman and vanman.

My Joseph Tucker was definitely born in England and converted to RC to marry Esther Colgan. Before that I'm not sure.

Thanks for your help everyone. I think I'll just scrap what I have and start over; too many crossed wires. I'm going to try visit my great gran, Joseph's granddaughter, and see what scraps she can remember.

I do think you need to recheck everything because it doesn't make sense just yet.
FJ in the baptism gives his parents as John and Martha and place of residence, I think, as St Luke’s Bristol.
The John and Martha I referred to earlier have a child Frederick P in 1871 and are living in St Luke’s, Bedminster, Bristol.
Frederick Percy Tucker was baptised 31st October 1869 at St Luke’s, Bedminster.  :-\

Your Joseph gives his father as Joseph, a soldier and England as his place of birth in the census.

Miriam,  What baptism records have you found in Bristol?

Your Joseph may well have been baptised in Dublin but the record may not be online.

I've requested a copy of the parish register for Esther and Joseph's marriage. With a bit of luck it'll include their mothers maiden names. I've tried searching the NLI parish records but they only have up to 1888 so I've had to go to the Parish Office directly.

My next adventure is to try find the death records for them both. . . Good thing I like a challenge!
