Where to Look for Coroner's Inquiry
« on: Monday 29 January 18 22:11 GMT (UK) »
Was hoping someone could help me find out how to search for Coroner's inquests or reports. Looking for any information regarding a death record for my Great Grandfather William Grattan who died 11 May 1871-Banbridge at 65 years of age. Cause of death says "Injuries from falling(illegible) accidental. Information from Coroner, Co. Down. The Coroner's name is also illegible but looks something like Rich Jas??? I got this record from the General Registrar's office and need to research further but not sure how or if even possible.

Any advice will greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Is it online??

Hi

F M P have an article in a newspaper about his death, my sub doesn't extend to Irish newpapers unfortunately but can give a bit of information

Article appeared 16 May 1871 - Newry Telegraph - Newry, Down, Northern Ireland.

Accident through Intoxication :: An inquest was held on Thursday, in the Albert Hotel, before Dr. Tyrrell, the body of William Grattan, aged sixty five. It appeared from the evidence of his son, John Grattan, that they had attended Banbridgc upon some ....

That's as much as I can view, possobly someone else may be able to help further

Files for Coroners inquests in Co. Down for the years 1873 to 1895 are held in PRONI in Belfast (ref DOW/6/1/1/1). From the years given I’d suspect that those for 1871 no longer exist.
