Angel family Isle of Wight
« on: Tuesday 30 January 18 00:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a clandestine marriage for Joseph Angle, which I think is meant to be Angel, to Mary Miles in Westminster in 1753. It says that he is from Newport in the Isle of Wight, but when I've tried to find a baptism on Ancestry, there don't seem to be any IOW/Hampshire records coming up. Does anyone know why this might be?

Be grateful for any help or advice.

Thanks,

Silkbraid

It is quite possible that he was only resident on the Isle of Wight at the time of his marriage, not born there.

Despite what their advertising may suggest Ancestry does not cover everywhere  ;)

Familysearch have this though that would make him quite old for a first time marriage
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N6LZ-T8G

Joseph Angel
Residence    Carisbrooke, Hampshire
Christening 10 Feb 1705
Christening Place:   Carisbrooke, Hampshire
Birth 02 Feb 1705
Father Joseph Angel

Ancestry has these records in their England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 collection but they are only what they have copied over from familysearch  ::)

Thank you for your replies.

I wonder if the Joseph Angel baptised 1705 might be the next generation back and be the father of the Joseph Angel in the marriage I have. As usual it's trying to prove the link!

When does 'your' Joseph die and does it give an age for him on his burial.  :-\

Hi,

One possible death entry is St Mary Whitechapel in 1795 aged 71, but others researching him have his death as 1781. So I'm not sure which one is correct.

There is a baptism in Whitechapel 15 Aug 1721 abode Lemon Street parents John & Mary that would possibly be the Whitechapel burial.  Ages are not always accurate on burials

Thank you.

Not sure whether to follow an IOW route or a London one - I suppose that's what makes Family History so frustrating, but also so compelling!
