If you look up mother in law Dorothy Bland in 1841 she has Dorothy Golightly (also on 1851 entry)  and Ann Lockon with her

Marriage Dec qtr 1847 has John Patton and Ann Locken/Lockon on same page

I think I've got the James/Ann marriage sorted.

In the 1851 Census you have John and Ann Patton with Dorothy Bland, mother in law and Dorothy Golightly niece aged 17

1841 HO107/320/2/F36/p22
Gillegate, St Giles, Durham
Dorothy Bland 60
Ann Locking 30
Mary Locking 15
Dorothy Golightly 7
John Golightly 9
George Bland 15

There is a marriage 21 May 1822 in Durham of an Ann Bland to a James Lochran and FreeBMD has this marriage

John Patton/Ann Locken or Lockon Dec 1847 Durham vol 24 p95

Putting together the name variations of Lochran/Locking/Locken I'm sure the 1847 marriage is your couple. I can't see a death for James Lochran but he seems to have died before the 1841 Census and there doesn't seem to be anything in the parish burials.

Thanks emeltom, I think I found the death of John Patton as well. There's a death in Easington district in 1867 of a 69 year old named John Patton. I reckon that's him as I can't find him after the 1861 census.
