1889 diary p23 two words

This one is bugging me. 

It definitely looks like a "y" at the end of the first word, but the first letter has a bit too much of a flourish to be an "r"... Hmmm...

There is a Scottish cheese made from sour milk which is called crowdy/crowdie. I don't suppose there is any chance that this word was used for attitude/behaviour..?!

As for the second word... When you compare it to the letters in "used" (...Miss Leach what used...) then it could, squinting and with a dollop of imagination, almost be coarse...

I have settled on 'crowdy loud' but will keep in mind the thought that the author has the habit of dropping the 'in' of 'ing' endings.

In view of the definition provided by Flattybasher9 (are there 8 other previous Flattybashers?), I think you are right with crowdy loud.

May I also say that;
1. If this diary belonged to an ancestor you are SO lucky to have it.
2. You have done really well to transcribe 15,000 words.

Thanks Pennines.
I was researching the life and work of an architect as a biographical subject when I unexpectedly found a forgotten 7 3/8" x 4 1/4" notebook in a box of papers still in the subject's family. It's a diary of June to December 1889 written with up to 800 words per page.
It is both a delight and challenge.
The biography is having to wait while I complete the transcription and references. I am planning more posts here in the hope I can finish the transcription.
I plan to publish the diary in a county record series.

I know you said you had been shy to initially post on this site and yes -- it is daunting when you are deciding shall I or shall I not --- I was apprehensive at first also. However I hope your fears have now been allayed.
