Missing Soulsby-Hindmarsh/Hindmarch Marriage.
« on: Wednesday 31 January 18 00:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am unable at present to locate a marriage for a John Soulsby to a Mary Hindmarsh/Hindmarch at all.

John Soulsby (1812/16-1895) & Mary Hindmarsh/Hindmarch (1812/21-1895) were married by the 1841 census, where they lived at Cowpen Quay & remained there on successive censuses.

John was born in either Woodhorn or North Seaton & Mary in Bebside.

Their first child Ann was born in 1839 in Cowpen Quay.

I was able to ascertain Mary's maiden surname from the GRO births index, when getting their children's birth records. They had 9 children in all.

John Soulsby was a Tailor by trade.

The marriage doesn't appear to be on familysearch, having looked already.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

That's quite a wide variation in her birthyear.  If it were 1812 and first child was born 1839 I would be tempted to wonder if she was previously married which would mean Hindmarsh was her birth surname but not necessarily the name she married John under

It is indeed a wide variation, info having been collated & gathered from censuses & death index record. None of which help to narrow it down! ::) A previous marriage is a possibility that I had considered, but have once again drawn a blank.

My thanks again.

Kind regards

Hi CaroleW,

Many, many thanks for that indeed. How did I miss that! :o Although having said that, I should have perhaps remembered that Soulsley is one of the known mis-transcriptions/ different spellings of Soulsby! ::)

My thanks again anyway! ;D

Kind regards
