US photo estimated 1910-1920-Can you help?
« on: Wednesday 31 January 18 05:32 GMT (UK) »
I recently found this family picture. My family of this era was living in the United States. It's on thin photo paper stock that I think became common circa 1900s +/-, and was formerly attached to a photo album with black paper pages. (The residue is still attached to the back.) There is a piece of music titled "Moonlight Day" on the piano, although I could not find any information on a music with the title.

Based on the clothing, the casual pose, the type of paper, and the furniture, I'm guessing it's from the 1890s to 1920s. The original image is 2 x 3.5 inches.

Can anyone date this more accurately?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi Brian,  I think the music may be 'Moonlight Bay'.
Online information says it was published in 1912 with music by Percy Wenrich.  Doris Day made this
song popular in later years.  My Dad used to play this song, I still have his sheet music.

Jen.

Hi and welcome

Apart from the music, the dresses suggest 1915-1919 ish - but this is UK styles. I think fashions were fairly similar though.

Quite casual isn't it, reminds me of a pose from a play.

The lady on the left with a cigarette and the lady on the right is that a pipe?

Hi and welcome from me too....My guess would have been the first world war years. Quite a fun relaxed photo suggesting they are playing a part. If it was 1890s it would be a cabinet card.

Does anyone else think they could be men?

Thanks to each of you for your valuable help! Dating the music made a big difference. This eliminates one ancestor altogether. Now to try to figure out who the two ladies are.
