Unknown relations photo is possibly taken in Philadelphia or New York
« on: Wednesday 31 January 18 23:07 GMT (UK) »
I received this unmarked photo from my maternal side.  The photo is possibly taken in Philadelphia or New York.  I'd like to have it dated so I can peruse my family tree to try and identify them

Thank you

Hi and welcome to Rootschat...I would say this was an 1880s photo...it's always a good idea to post the whole photo including the corners and also the back if available. They look to be in their 20s I would guess.

Agree 1880's however on this occasion the back will reveal nothing as it's a tintype.
They came in cardboard folders which had the photographers name but most of these were lost.
Only the USA were using tintypes as late as this.Tintypes are in reverse as the metal was the medium used.
This is how they would have looked.

Have found a similar dress which is dated 1888-9 when the skirt was not so elaborate as earlier in the decade.
