Does anyone know where a WW1 "dumb cancellation" with the letters "BM" may have been posted ?

Not something I know anything about, but have you thought about contacting the Imperial War Museum?

Below is a link to their contacts page:-

https://customerportal.iwm.org.uk/contact-iwm/

Fill in all the boxes marked with * and then see below:-

When you get to this section - Which branch does your enquiry relate to? - Choose London
What type of enquiry? - Choose question
What is your enquiry about? - Choose Other General Enquiry

You then carry on and explain what you would like to know.

I've no idea whether they will be able to assist you but it's worth a try.  Hopefully they can suggest where you need to look if they can't help.

Or try a Philately website, there are philatelists who specialise in wartime cancellations.
Active links are now (after 13/04/2018) indicated by bold red italics. Just click on them.
The only stupid question is the one not asked
