S.S. RIO VERDE

hi I'm looking for any info on this ship. I am doing a project for our local history group and this was mentioned on out war memorial and info on this man who served on this ship his name is John McDonald died on 21st feb 1918 he was lost at sea but really cant find much info on the ship or this man to know how he came about on petty inverness Scotland war memorial.

Seems that the sinking of SS Rio Verde may have been misattributed to U86 where it seems it was in fact U100.

He is also commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, together with 16 other British or Commonwealth merchant seamen, lost with RIO VERDE. Ex AUSTRIANA Official Nuumber 112448.
