Lands in Wye 1670-1690
« on: Friday 02 February 18 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm hoping someone here can clarify some dates of christenings and possibly burials or marriages for me.

Thomas Lands of Wye married Mary Chapman in Canterbury in February 1702/03. It looks like he was born in Wye in 1678 to John and Sarah Lands, however I have seen two different dates on different sources.

On Familysearch the christening is recorded as follows:

Thomas Lands son of John and Sarah Lands - christened 3 April 1678 Wye

However on the website www.hastingleigh.com it gives the the date as 10 April 1678

Thomas also appears to have had a brother named John whose christening is recorded on Familysearch as 20 August 1676 but on hastingliegh.com as 29 August 1676.

Can anyone confirm the correct christening dates for me and let me know if there is any sign of a marriage for John and Sarah?

Thanks

Matt

Hi

Which tree are you referring to here? The dates I have from Familysearch come from their "England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database. I actually haven't seen any trees on there lol!

Do you think the date on the hastingliegh website is more likely to be correct?

Hi

I have the PR infront of me and I would say it says the 3rd April. The image is faint towards the end of the entry but looking at the others that say John son of John Smith and Mary his wife April 3rd, Thomas's says

Thomas son of John Lands and Sarahhis w April 3 (rd -is above the 3)

Hope this makes sense.

Thomas's brother John was baptised on the 20 August 1676 - there is interference from the letter 'f' (wife) from the entry beneath that of the Lands baptism making the '0' look like a 9.

Another sibling of Thomas was a David Lands baptised at Wye on 25 Sep 1681.

And possibly the father John Lands was baptised in Wye too as there is this

John Lands bapt. 11 Jun 1643 at Wye son of another John Lands.

Hi Claire

Many thanks, that makes perfect sense. Good to know I had the correct date down and don't need to change it lol!

Hi

Thanks for those other names, I hadn't come across any of these myself.

I think you are correct in saying that John was possibly christened in 1643 [son of another John] as so far it is the only possibly candidate I've found.

Thanks again for your help getting the dates right, it's much appreciated.

Matt
