Searching for Stormont (et al spelling) records in the Ballygomartin area.
1970-74 Geographia map of Belfast with 10 digit isbn 0 09 200290 0 ie pub 1970-1974 quoting 114 Fleet st price 6 shillings 30p 114 Fleet st London. Scale 41/2 inches to one mile. in the area of Monks Hill the Ballygomartin river sharply southwards after travelling west-east after and is joined by a unnamed tributary stream coming from beneath the Glencairn road. The Glencairn road at this very point has a unnamed road running northwards. the the unnamed stream appears to exist on the east side of the road (modern google satellite)
Where the road nowdays appears to be a untarmaced gated earth lane. Moving up a quarter mile on the lane it leads to a building marked Stormount which is drawn as 3 parallel narrow buildings leading into a triangular structure the satellite view is of overgrown trees with possibility one roof partly visible, and a hint of another nearby building . the bigger building are marked Stormount on the map a nearby spring turns into a stream running through the new Forth river estate and joining the forth river.
In the street directories in 1880 a ref’ to Stormont Farm and in 1890 to both Stormont Farm and Stormont Lodge. At this stage I think both are completely unrelated to the John Cleland Dundonald or his father Samuel, but in case I was wrong I noted down both as encountered. overall the clues appear to lead to the Carmichael family taking over the Stormount farm and lodge in Ballygomartin
