Charles Fletcher c1820 Norwich
« on: Friday 02 February 18 17:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi. Does anyone know how to find birth records for St Michael at Thorn, Norwich 1820-1830 please ?  I have found a probable record of my ancestor George Fletcher of Sheffield (mis-spelt Flecther) marrying Elizabeth Ryann there in 1820 and the family's subsequent census records in Sheffield all show their children as born in Norwich (Charles c1820, George c1822, Sarah Ann c1828), but I can find no trace of their birth records on any sites.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The 1841 census shows the daughter Sarah as being born in Yorkshire.
You won't find any birth records for those years but you may be lucky if the birth date is recorded on the baptism record.
Sarah's baptism is on FamilySearch and it looks like they were Catholics.

Many thanks for that info.  I hadn't spotted the "Born in County ?" column on the 1841 Census and I couldn't find Sarah in 1851, so assumed she was also born in Norfolk.  I'll send for possible marriage certificates for 1841-1851 to see if I can pin her down (I note a conviction for larceny in 1846 fits her age, but I don't know if there's any way of finding out address details on that).  I'll follow up Charles & George's births - maybe the Catholic connection will help. Cheers, David.
