GEORGE TAYLOR AND CATHERINE RAE
« on: Saturday 03 February 18 10:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi, just started my family tree and looking for help in finding information on the above....my GGG Grandfather was their son, also GEORGE TAYLOR, born c1830 according to various censuses, but 1826 suggested by age on death certificate. Married MARGARET DAVIDSON in Methlick on 4 Mar 1852, died Barthol Chapel, Tarves on 8 April 1893 and buried in Barthol Chapel cemetery...on death certificate parents are given as GEORGE TAYLOR and CATHERINE TAYLOR ( m.s. RAE ) but I can find no trace of them in censuses, births, deaths etc...any other sources beyond 1841 census? wondering if they may even have moved out of the area, but not sure how to try finding out.

Do you have all the family together on the 1841 census?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Hi Colin, no I don't unfortunately, closest in 1841 census is a James and Catherine Taylor with a son George - I think her maiden name was Rae also, but not convinced they are the same...it's a very common name of course which doesn't help :) ..also. if he was 13 or 14 by then, could well have been working on a farm as a servant.. :)

I cannot find a birth for George on SP anywhere in Scotland to a George & Catherine.

I note from his later census returns he was born around the areas where he later married.

I will have another look later today.

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thanks Colin, have also tried to find death certificate of a Catherine Taylor, nee Rae, on SP, but so far to no avail....thinking that if she died post 1855 death cert would have info on her parents etc...may have died earlier of course.

Only 1 birth record 1800 – 1810 of Catherine Rae in Aberdeenshire
I think the one below?

CATHERINE RAE - 6/09/1801 - JOHN RAE/JANET GRAY New Machar
Several trees say married Charles Beattie.

However

CATHERINE RAE - 15/06/1801 - ROBERT RAE/CATHERINE TAYLOR
Banchory Ternan, Kincardineshire. Only child?

ROBERT RAE married KATHARINE TAYLOR/ 5/12/1793 Banchory Ternan

It’s possible that KATHERINE TAYLOR was the daughter of
GEO. TAYLOR/KATHERINE JOSS 1/02/1774, Gamrie and Macduff, Banff

There was also George 29/06/1779 + Margaret 1771, Elizabeth 1777
George probably married Mary Taylor?

Therefore the one you mention may be more likely, so may be the later death record was an error?

JAMES TAYLOR married CATHARINE RAE 30/09/1829 Fyvie

JAMES TAYLOR 18/09/1808 JOHN TAYLOR born Tarves

James was a Farmer of 5 acres.    1841/33 – 1851/44
Catherine 1851 census states born Tarves but no record. 1841/38 – 1851/50

No birth/baptism records for any of their children?

1841 – Aquorthers, Tarves – Children
George 11, William 9, Alexander 7, John 5, Frances 3

1851 – Auchnum, Tarves – Children James 12, Elizabeth 8

Death record: CATHERINE TAYLOR 54 mother WHYTE 1860 Ellon
No death record for James may have died 1851-1854?
