Don't really know to be honest.  Perhaps it would have depended on whether you made your burial wishes know to family members and on whether relatives were contacted on your death.  Expense and distance may have been a factor on whether you were buried in your stated place or in the locality of your death.

Hello people I have had great results and found Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather graves from your advise I am now looking for death of Annie(Ann) Blackburn born 1856 Greenock never married??? Worked in service. Mother Jean Betty McIntosh father Alexander Blackburn. I've tried Scotlands people so far nothing. I'm sure if she had her way she would also have been buried in Greenock cemetery. Any ideas much appreciated 😃
