Thank you Groom very interesting I am researching for present day family living in NZ they are trying to trace the irish connection they had thought it was through Thomas williams mother o shaughnessy but it seems is also through the Jackson line.  Do you know what "town missionary" means as occupation.
Can you see any passenger record of thomas matteson jackson going to NZ. :)

I googled Town Missionary and got a result from an old Rootschat thread which may help

At the moment I can't find him on a passenger list or the family in 1891.

By 1881, his father has died:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27L-D4TN
Children John, Sarah, and William are still in the household, there is the addition of a son Robert. Rachel Jr. perhaps married.

By 1891, Sarah has married, mother Rachel and brother John are in the household with her:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:7389-16Z
This census indicates that the Jacksons are from County Down.

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/parliamentary/AJHR1907-I.2.4.2.21/2
 - Thomas Matheson Jackson was a mariner, here he is recorded receiving a certificate of competency as First Mate in 1907 (page 26)
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/parliamentary/AJHR1909-II.2.4.2.20/2
and as Master in 1909 (page 37)

If he travelled to NZ as crew, he wouldn't necessarily appear on passenger lists.

Groom does the marriage record give fathers name of Mary Ellen?
