James O'SHAUGHNESSY :

Mmm ... his name didn't come up in my earlier searches of "colonial-nominated" passengers.
But again the sponsor is Mrs Mary GAYNE of  Kakaramea, (Taranaki district).

NZ Marriage :

[Almost embarrassed to show how this name was transcribed.   ::)  ;D  Our NZ BDM has something to answer for considering you're required to enter into the search box, names, exactly as they have them spelled.   i. e.  no wild card searches available.   Bah !! ]

O'SHANPHRESSY  ;D[sic]  -  James -- Eleanor BUCKRIDGE -- Year:  1899

----

James died in 1949 - and is buried with wife Eleanor (also known as Julia), and two sons, James d. 1974 age 68 and John Thomas d. 1930 aged 20 yrs.
They are all interred at the Marton Cemetery (Mount View) - which is the same place that Mary O'SHAUGHNESSY (mother of Mary JACKSON)  was also laid to rest.  (See earlier Reference I gave for her.)
James and Eleanor appear to have had quite a number of children.

Fantastic information Lu thank you.  Am now reverting to a family member living in Australia his mother was Jackson lives in NZ but havent researched the family extensively and my request was to find if they had Irish connections so if James O Shaughnessy had several children it will be interesting to maybe trace their offspring another project.
My contact in Australia his parents have a farm in Taranaki but have it leased out in later years.
Rgds Frances :)

I am a great grand daughter of Captain Thomas Matheson Jackson, my 97 yr old mother is his grand daughter.
Dorothy (Dolly) Eileen Adams (my grand mother) was his daughter.
Thomas & Mary had 6 children that we know of
Rachel who married Alfred Alabaster - Raetihi
Dorothy married Thomas Andrew Pellet Adams (Adelaide, Australian) they lived in Hawera - eventually.
James married Edna - Ian their son is very interested in "the tree" - I have yet to contact him with all the information you are discovering - BUT you do not mention James - and he certainly existed!
Not sure of the next order
Tommy
Bob
Frank.
Mum has memories of her grand father.

Who is Sarah Julia Mary? she is about the time that Uncle Jim was born.

Hello Judith Mullin ... welcome to RootsChat.   :)

The following appears to be the birth registration for the "missing" James.

It appears on the NZ Birth index (online version) as >

1904 / 19457 - JACKSON - James Patrick
Mother:   Mary
Father:   Thomas

From another resource, I can tell you that this birth was registered (third quarter 1904) at Patea (Taranaki).

NZ Death Index

1969 - JACKSON - James Patrick - aged 64 years         [=  born circa 1905 ]
[Date of death (from cemetery record) 16 March 1969 ]

There is also a Probate record held for this man at Archives New Zealand (Wellington office) ... usually this would be accessible for viewing online, however the link to same (Wellington probates) @familysearch website, is not currently working.

James Patrick JACKSON is buried at Taihape Cemetery, the record for which states he was the husband of "Edna Mavis" ... and father of .... [names not recorded here in this thread to protect privacy of living persons].

NZ Marriage Index

James Patrick JACKSON - Edna Mavis de BERRY -- Year :  1931
