Census dates a bit confusing

Death 1944 Debtford shows his gave  age  as 79, so born  circa 1865

Louisa Maud

So that fits perfectly with the baptism I found! Maybe he knocked a few years off his age when he joined up in WW1, not unknown for men to alter ages if they were too old or too young to fight.

I suppose that was true! Only query is he married in 1899 and the age on there is 28 making him born in 1871?! Can't wrap my head around this!!

How old was his wife when they married - was she quite a bit younger than he was?

Perhaps he knocked a few years off because his wife was younger

Jessie  Trugunno  (spelt various ways on children's birth registrations) was born  01/09/1878 according to her baptism, that could be the reason

That looks like the reason to me! He was 13 years older than his wife when they married. She was 21 he was actually 34 but claimed to be 28. I wonder if she knew?

As long as they were happy it doesn't really matter, a friend of mine married a man 42 years older then her, they were very happy and that is what  it is all  about, perhaps he had to lie to keep her

Or perhaps they thought her family would object? Someone obviously knew his real age when they registered his death.

Interesting.. It Seems he most likely lied about his age. A 1911 Census puts Isaac at 44, yet his 1915 pension records place him at 45. Although looking at the marriage certificate (I may be reading this wrong) to me it looks like they lived a few doors down from one another, so surely she must of known his age (although not cared?) !

There was an earlier post suggesting Isaac's Parents being George King & Susan (Eastland) although it seems possible, I don't think it can be? A 1881 Census puts their children as William, Thomas and Grace. The 2 boys  are both older than Isaac by a couple of years. If he was indeed born 1865 why is he not on the census, I cant see a reason why a 16 year old would not be at home, whereas a 24 & 18 year old would be? (or am I missing the obvious!)
