Ellen Hume (Hulme)
« on: Monday 05 February 18 16:09 GMT (UK) »
Ellen Hume (1825- 1881, not sure) is my gt grandmother wife of George Ward. 1823-1882
I have certificate of marriage in Over Darwen on 28th July 1872. age Full, father James Hume, deceased. Daughter Mary Ellen was born in Over Darwen 21st October 1873. Only father and daughter are on 1881 census. I would like to know more of Ellen Hume's family. She was getting on a bit for having a child.

Have you checked earlier census records for her?

Is James shown as a widower in 1881?  EDIT - yes he is

When did Ellen die?  I can't find an Ellen Ward death between 1873-1881 that matches a birthdate of 1825.  Over Darwen was Blackburn RD but the 1881 shows George living in the Preston RD

If she was 'Full Age' on the marriage lines and you know only that her father was " James HUME, deceased" (I'm presuming if you had a baptism record for her for example, you might at least otherwise know her mother's first name, father's occupation or abode at baptism)  - how do you know she was born 1825?

Cheers

Ellen Hume's dates came up on George Ward's family tree on Ancestry...  Not sure which one.  Cannot check until Friday at Family History centre Doncaster. Ellen was his third wife and died when my grandmother was 7.She was born October 1873 in Over Darwen

Using GRO online to check Mary Ellen's birth shows Ellen's surname spelt as Hulme although marriage reg shows Hume

I have looked at the tree on Ancestry you mention and it says "His wife Ellen passed away in 1881 in Darwen, Lancashire, at the age of 56. They had been married 9 years"

If she died in Darwen - her death would have been registered in Blackburn.  By March 1881 George was living in Preston and was already widowed.

No death reg under Ward that matches apart from the 25yr old mentioned above.  I think you need to contact the tree owner to determine where that info came from
