Hi I'd be very grateful if someone could confirm my great grandfathers profession from this marriage certificate...
The word above ..(Master) x

Harnesser? (though I don't think there are enough letters between the Har... and the ...ser.

Depending on dates does he appear on any census and if so what is his occupation given as? You could also cross check with his occupation on his children's birth certificates.

My first thought was "Farmer" but I have never heard of a Master Farmer but there appears to be an s before the er and I was unsure if first letter was an F ...  :-\

PS. Welcome to rootschat!  :)

Added: Are there any other capital Fs or Hs on the certificate for comparison?

It is definitely 'Farrier (Master)'.

From my dictionary of old trades book:

Farrier - Blacksmith who specialises in horse-shoeing.
