That sort of looks more like a signature to me - J Hilloch ?
Is it on a Census  perhaps?

Is this the 1901 census? 

If it is a census where does this person say they are from on other censuses? If you give the source, person's name etc, then it might be good to have a look at the entire document.

You are a legend...  You have helped me out a couple of years ago . Indeed you are responsible
for  getting two canadians ladies on a plane to to France visit their WW1 relatives grave . Intrigued ? I shall tell you more ..


But for now.. Yes its a 1911 census .. Everone in the family has Cumberland in large script...  and place names in similar style to this scrawl... written above and to the roght of Cumberland
ie seaton, asby wigton,dearham
which is why I assumed it to be a place name

Its Mary Tinnion , sometimes mispelled Tennion    Headon on the wall,Northumberland

I can't spot a Mary Tinnion born about 1904, either born or living in Heddon on the Wall in the 1911 census.

What have I done wrong?

Added: Righto, she is Tennion in the 1911 census.

I note that those who have had the place names added (later), have had them written over to make more legible, except for Mary's - it is not at all clear is it?

Have you tried looking for Mary's birth on the GRO index? Is Mary the daughter of 27 year old Alice? Or have I put two and two together and got five? Likely.
