Tracing my grandfather in Kenmore Ohio
« on: Tuesday 06 February 18 16:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to trace my grandfather James C Scott. He claimed US Social Security on 29th October 1956 in Kenmore Ohio. He was born 17 April 1884 in Ireland

Hi and welcome to RootsChat!

Do you know anything more about your grandfather?

I do see one with the same date of birth:

Hi Maureen

Yes this is my grandfather. He moved to Ohio in 1920 and travelled between there and Scotland for a few years. He was joined by his wife and 3 of his children. They left in 1931 and came back to Northern Ireland. I though he had died but found out he was still alive in 1956

This appears to be his WWII draft registration card - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X58H-JMP

This entry on the 1940 census matches the address of the draft registration card - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KW5J-5GK

This may be him on the Ohio death index - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VK21-VZM

If that's him, his burial is here - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/78155433

If the above death is the right one, there is a funeral notice here:  https://cpl.org/newsindex/showrecord/?record=714909&type=necrology&searchType=necrology

Hi, JoanS19:

Depending on the type of info you seek, it might be worthwhile to purchase a copy of your grandfather's Social Security application. For example, it should contain his parents' names, the address where he was living at the time of his application, and his place of employment.

Regards,
Josephine
