Hi sunflower,
   Quite often you can find a marriage notice on trove (digitised newspapers) which gives their parents' names and location https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/

   Just type into the main search box
      "Smith Jones"~8
(replacing Smith and Jones by the surnames concerned) and where ~8 means within 8 words.
 
   Then restrict (using sidebar at left) by state and by year and possibly to family notices.

   Or you can tell us and we can search

The lists mentioned in the first two replies are superb and I have referred to them on many occasions but remember it does say what you can “expect” on a certificate not what you will get, I recently ordered an 1844 marriage certificate from Western Australia and it contained only the two names, their declared ages and the occupation of the groom, so please don’t expect all the listed details - GedB

You also have to use a bit of commonsense when acquiring an 1844 marriage certificate in Australia anywhere.  Most Colonies would only have transcribed parish records which were required by law to be submitted to their Registry.  I wouldn't use the link as much of the information is out of date.  Graham Jaunay has retired however his contributions to the genealogy world are and will always been valued.

Each Colony/State/Territory in Australia maintain and are responsible for their own BDM registers in accordance with their individual State Legislation.  I would always refer to the State's BDM Registry website for information eg in WA for marriages http://www.bdm.dotag.wa.gov.au/P/prior_to_1896.aspx?uid=2946-1662-0459-2760

The Registry can only record the information provided at the time of registration. Some registrations have inaccurate or missing information. This is particularly the case with 19th century records when high rates of illiteracy led to spelling variations and errors in recording information.

And as has previously been stated it is only noted what you may expect not what you may get.
