E.V. PEACH - cricketer
« on: Wednesday 07 February 18 20:12 GMT (UK) »
E. V. Peach (I don't know his Christian names) played cricket for Broadbottom in 1938 then changed to Stalybridge Cricket Club in 1939.  Can anybody shed any light on where he lived at the time, please? Any other family information would also be useful and welcome. Thank you.

E. V. Peach (I don't know his Christian names)

If he was born in England or Wales - have you looked on freebmd for a birth or death registration for him to establish his christian names?  Possibility in 1919

Any other family information would also be useful

If he was born from late 1911 onwards his mothers maiden name will be shown on the entry.  You can then use freebmd to look for his parents marriage

As advised above - check the 1939 register for him which will give his full names and birthdate

What is your interest in him?

The one born in 1919 died in 1937.

Another possibility is Ernest Victor Peach, born Gorton in 1896, died in Manchester in 1970.

Thank you for all of your replies.  I have some ideas to go on now.

I am writing the history of Broadbottom Cricket Club and discovered this man playing for the club in 1937 and 1938.  In 1939 he moved to Stalybridge C.C.  He made a significant impact in his two years at our club and I would like to find out who he was.  If I can locate any living descendants I might even get hold of a photo of him.

From the information you have given me, he can't be the man who died in 1937, so I will pursue the man born in 1896.

Thank you again.

this might shock you but on www.192.com if you put in the search box
peach
gorton
you get 30 results of living Peach phone numbers and Electoral Role ....and a Sarah Peach aged 26 ...so - I wonder if she is named after Sarah Ellen all those years ago ??

I might just do that, thanks.  An alternative could be to write an old fashioned letter to the Evening News and see what that brings.

I have just been looking through a bunch of downloaded old cricket match reports.  In an early one from 1937 I learned that our man used to play for Gorton. Coincidence....?
