Mark, thank you.  I live in the US and finding stuff about England from here is often a pain in the neck.  Rosie, I appreciate your help as well.

Next Baptism says John Voce of Whitley

Selby 30th January 1791, Mary Gibson bapt. 2nd dau of John a "Sailer" & Elizabeth Gibson
John son of Joseph Gibson of Selby, Fisherman. Elizth dau of Richd Jackson of Selby, Carrier by Mary his wife dau of John Voce of Whitley, Weaver. Born 4th January.

No idea yet on Whiteley or Whitley.

Added Somebody ought to check the images

The Richard Jackson I am familiar with, of Selby, were Tanners (Leather), so Carrier (above) is probably wrong.

I would always advise you to check the image of the original entry:-
a) There can be valuable snippets, not transcribed on Family Search (FS).
b) there may be human error occasionally too?

Selby Parish should be on the two main family history sites for anyone on Rootschat wishing to check?

Selby Transcriptions 30th January 1793 when their 1st Son John Gibson is baptised, it says in the descent (ancestry) that Richard Jackson of Selby was a Currier.

Looks like Carrier is an error?

Thanks.  I made a note that he is a 'currier' instead of a carrier.

Is a waterman the same as a sailor?

Edward Baines Directory 1822

Selby
Tanners and Leather Dressers
John Hartley, Gowthorpe, Selby
Richard Jackson, Gowthorpe, Selby

(In this case Gowthorpe is a street/road name in Selby, not to be confused with the place of that name).

If you click on the pdf and download (up to you if you wish to save to pc) and you have a printer connected, you may wish to print the Selby pages.

Yorkshire is in two volumes.

You can get the full title from the title page.
