Archibald Redman b. 1886 during WW2- uniform identification please.
« on: Saturday 10 February 18 12:09 GMT (UK) »
Granddad served in WW1 and at start of WW2 was about 55.  What is this uniform please looks like Police. Could he have been a Special Constable.  His employment all his life until retirement was Manager of a local Brewery.  He was possibly in Home Guard.

These pics are only about 3"x 2" and not very sharp. Would it be possible to restore a bit?

It might give a clue if you can scan the collar to see what letters are....It looks like YS. He looks to be wearing medal ribbons. This will bring it back up the board for attention.

Thank you everyone liking your restores.

I know what medals he received and know his service history for WW1 from docs and family letters. W W2 is trickier because it was voluntary service and I am relying on things I was told by Dad and Grandad. Had I know I would get family history bug would have written everything down. Ain't hindsight wonderful.

The 1939 register on FindMyPast usually shows ‘voluntary’ wartime occupations in addition to any full time occupation.
