Family of Rev Thomas Adderley.
« on: Saturday 10 February 18 14:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm looking for any other possible bapts of Rev Thomas Adderley/Atherley.
He marries Frances James 21 Apr 1714 Church Eaton, Staff.
(This is the only record I can find of a Thomas Adderley/Atherley marrying a Frances)
In 1714 He is also Rev/Rector of Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire until 1719.
He has a Daughter Frances baptised there in 1717.
He then goes onto become the Reverend and Rector of Cadeby Church, Leicestershire.
Dies in 1741 Cadeby, Leic.
His son John my 7th grt grandfather bapt 1722 Cadeby goes onto have children at Loughborough, Leic, under the name John Atherley. Atherley seems to be a common error or variation of Adderley.
Johns daughter Ann Atherley bapt 1744 is my 6th grt grandmother.

In regards to Thomas's Marriage at Church Eaton the only bapt I can see which fits in terms of age and proximity is a Thomas Adderley bapt 14 Aug 1686 Lilleshall, Shropshire. Parents Edward and Elizabeth. Lilleshall is only about 9 miles away and about a 3 hour walk.
This seems to be a good bet.

I can't help with a marriage or baptism, however according to the "Clergy of the Church of England Database 1540-1835", it appears that the appointments you have at Burton Joyce  and Cadeby were 2 different people. The Thomas ADDERLEY at Cadeby was ordained a priest on 30 May 1708, (was curate at Tydd St Mary in 1706) and died in 1741.

The Thomas ADDERLEY who was at Burton Joyce was ordained 21 Sept 1712

Thank you for your reply.
This is odd as will suggests this is the same person.
On Thomas’s will 1741 he lists one of his lawful children and only daughter Frances Adderley.
The only Frances I can see is the one baptised 1717 Burton Joyce, Notts to Thomas Adderley.

Frances marries in Leicestershire and lists her birthdate as 1717.

It is odd, maybe the CCED database is incorrect. I notice that Thomas ADDERLEY vacated the postion at Burton cum Bulcote on 10 Sept 1719 (living deemed void by cession - meaning he had another position elsewhere) and Thomas ADDERLEY was appointed at Cadeby on 2 Sept 1719 - seems too much of a coincidence. However,  wonder why they definitely have different dates for ordination?  ???

Hello
As you know there is only the one marriage Thomas and Frances Adderley at Church Eaton in 1714.
The marriage licence gives the couple as 25 and 23 bach and spinster.
The bond is taken out by John Adderley yeoman of Gnosall .

The Oxford Uni Alumni does have Thomas Adderley
Thomas s of George of Apeton Co Stafford Queens College 28.6.1705 aged 16 Ba 1709, vicar of Burton Notts 1714,rector of Cadeby 1719 see Fosters Index Ecclesiasticus

So again born 1689.
But no sign of a baptism which should be in the parish of Gnosall.
And the only couple in Gnosall is Thomas and Mary with a son John born 1680 who presumably is the bondsman in 1714.
