commemoration of Armistice WW1

Is anyone organising an event to mark this occasion? Would be interested in what you are doing. Been asked to run an event, looking for ideas.

You could try asking local people to create and contribute poppies in remembrance of someone known to them who served in the Great War. A small card could be placed by the poppies on a display giving a small amount of info about the person.  Poppies could be drawn, knitted or made of fabric or whatever.

This would be a striking and poignant way to show remembrance.  I believe Newcastle library once held such an exhibit.

Whatever you do, please make sure that your event acknowledges that the war itself did not end at the Armistice, and that there were some casualties after 11 November 1918.

It is a moot point whether or not the Russian Intervention was part of the war or not (I think the better view is that it was not, but all the same ... ). My closest relative to die in the war was an Engine Room Artificer on HMS Myrtle who went down with his ship on July 1919 ...
