William Arthur Collins born 1894. (son of Frank Collins)
« on: Saturday 10 February 18 21:58 GMT (UK) »
This is a photo of William Arthur Collins. (He is the son of Frank Collins)

Willie, as he was known, was born in Swansea in 1894 but lived in Neath. He married Emma Newbury.

It is not known which regiment he served in.  Is there any chance one of you great people can tell from his uniform and badge please.

I apologise for the state of the photo but I have just been sent the copy which was found at the back of a cupboard apparently.

Thanks
SNG

The shape of the cap badge, bandolier and shoulder lanyard looks like he is one of the units of the Royal Artillery.

Yep Royal Horse or Field Artillery.
There are 5 MIC's for William A Collins all RFA.
Couldn't do much with the background I'm afraid.

Many thanks tonepad and jim1.

I am now going to look for records for the RFA and hopefully I'll be able to narrow it down.

William was from Neath, Glamorgan but his grandson thinks he may have lied about his age when signing up.
Ironically I thought it might be a regiment that had horses and had found two records last night but unfortunately there are no addresses etc. to be certain.

Thanks again for your help and answering the question. It is very much appreciated.

Hi jim1,

Have you by any chance put a photo with your message?  It is not showing at my end. When I tried to click on the box, a message informing me that an error has occurred appeared.
If you did put an image please could you repost it.
Thanks

Many thanks jim1.
That is fantastic.

Sadly I still have a little blue box in your first post and the message that an error has occurred.
I cannot get it to load. I have tried a number of times.
Anyway this photo is showing perfectly.
The horse is beautiful. Thank you so much.

I have managed to find a couple of records for William Arthur Collins, RFA, on ancestry but looking at them, even with the regimental numbers there is no clue to them being the right man.
I also looked on FindMyPast and as you say there are five records. Next time I go to the library I will check those five.

I know a lot of the records from WW1 were burned in a fire in WW11, however do you know if there is a list anywhere that would state the man's name and address?

Many thanks for your time and patience with me, it is much appreciated.
Pam
