manchester baptism abt 1842
« on: Sunday 11 February 18 00:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Help please

I'm trying to find the baptism for a John EASTWOOD born in Derby. I have a hint for one in Manchester that may or may not be him. C of E. Parents William and Priscilla.

John's father must have died, his mother remarried in 1844 and he was living with his Eastwood grandparents in Lancashire by 1851

I am trying to confirm that John is the son of this couple

Thanks

I'm presuming you know his parents were William and Priscilla? If this is John's birth registration - Derby 19/466 in Sept qtr 1842, his mother's maiden name was WOOD. There is a William EASTWOOD and Priscilla WOOD on the same page married reg in Leicester (15/121) Sept qtr 1841.

There is another John EASTWOOD born reg Manchester in June 1842, mmn REDFERN. (Possibly John EASTWOOD and Hannah REDFE(A)RN?)

However, I can't see a "William" amongst Henry and Sarah EASTWOOD's children (your John's grandparents)? From Lancs opc, children baptised to Henry and Sarah:

24 Feb 1822   Abraham
13 Jun 1824   John
26 Nov 1826   Sarah
7 Sep 1829    Ann
28 Aug 1831   Squire
18 May 1834   Elizabeth
18 May 1834   Lord

Are you sure the 1844 marriage for Priscilla ( to Thomas Barsby) is correct? The mmn shown for children of this marriage is Eastwood, which would suggest that this Priscilla was a spinster when she married Thomas.

Hi

Priscilla WOOD married William Eastwood 1842 then married Thomas Barsby as a widow under the name Priscilla Eastwood in 1844. Have been helped with the details of this marriage already.

William Eastwood was indeed the son of Henry and Sarah/Sally but the family moved around and he was born in Yorkshire not Lancashire where the family eventually settled. Other people have John as the child of William and Priscilla and William was living in Derby with Priscilla's brother in the 1841 census just prior to their marriage which adds substance to his birth in Derby. But clearly he was brought up by grandparents and not his mother

It is always best if you post a link to the other one as you know how we get carried away in our searching and it saves duplicating what we have already looked at.  ;D   ;D
