Ernest Canham
« on: Sunday 11 February 18 08:23 GMT (UK) »
A newspaper cutting of 6th Sept 1918 states - " Sergt. Ernest Canham of Pepys-terrrace , who has been awarded the Military Medal, has been home from France during this week. He has also been awarded the French Croix de Guerre."

The electoral records show that he lived in Pepys Terrace Impington Cambs from 1919 until 1923.

Can anyone see any other details of Ernest?

Thanks for looking. An Ernest Canham married Winifred Loates in 1924, the year after Ernest left Pepys Terrace Impington and a record for them both in St Ives (Hunts) in 1939 which is not very far from Impington. Ernest was a Farm Manager for a  Chivers Farm.( Chivers were based in Histon / Impington.)

And they both died in Cambridge.

Thanks again for you help.

Bob

Any information on Ernest gratefully received!

Thank you so much for the prompt replies. I only found this site my accident last night when i googled Grandad and was surprised to find this. Also interested to know why Bob tonks was asking!!??

Thanks for the information - interestingly although the details are correct we have different army numbers for him and i do have his discharge papers so we know they are right, however i will do a search on the numbers above. We have considered contacting the regiment, but i read somewhere they don't deal with individuals but this maybe something i need to investigate further. Have also got the gazette info, but unfortunately it only lists his name and doesn't give any further details.

We are also looking for information on Grandad's mother Elizabeth Read, but i'll Put that on a different post.

Thanks again Tracy
