Drawn a blank 1790 - Phillip PICKLES, Bury
« on: Sunday 11 February 18 14:35 GMT (UK) »
I have resumed by family history search after some time and managed to get back to the birth of my relative, Phillip PICKLES in 1790, I believe, at Bury, Lancs. I have also confirmed:
Wedding Banns at Halifax 1811 (Spouse Ellen Holme, Bury) (Spells his name Philip Pickels)
Marriage at St Peters Church, Bolton-le-Moor [Bolton]
Census, Bury 1841
Burial Wesleyan Methodist Church, Union St, Bury 1849
I can show three of his relatives forward of 1815, Alice, Phillip and John.
My "newby untrained" question is - how to I push this backwards now? How do I find his parents and what other children he may have had? I have registered for assorted commercial websites with little success. I have tried LancashireBMD & lan-opc but am spiralling round in circles. I'm more than happy to do the work, but am clueless as to how to dig back further.
Is there any kind soul who can give me a nudge in the right direction please?
Many thanks in anticipation, Greg  :)

Hi Ladyhawk. I think that you are correct with Joshua. All the information fits, as do the dates and occupation.
The Phillip that you identify, I think is a grandson, but I have found what I believe to be Phillip the son age 7 years from the 1841 census.
I tried Ellen for any family, but as yet, I'm struggling. I'm sure that you know the feeling better than me, but my head is swimming at the minute. I need to get my scrawled notes in some sort of order. but - bright side - I'm learning all the time. Thanks for your help. :)
