There is a likely candidate living in South Manchester born 1881 London.  Take a look at the entry - particularly his occupation

I wondered about this Thomas Kelly:

The Christina and Christopher Kelly that Trish pointed out gives her birth place as Donabate;

Thank-you all.

From the information you have given I think I have managed to confirm that my grandfather was born in London between 1879 and 1881. His lived with his family, including his sister Christina / Christian, in Donabate, Co Dublin in 1901 (his family were all born in Donabate). He lived in the Manchester area from at least 1911 onwards, working as a railway stableman / ostler and married Alice Dowling.

I am still struggling to confirm his actual birth & death details, getting no unique matches from the birth & death extracts.  There are many Thomas Kellys born in London between 1879 & 1881, and the time range that I have for his death is wide (1918-1939).

Do you have any further advise in this regard ?

Thanks again

Hello,

You have siblings in 1901. It would be time consuming perhaps but you can look births up for mother’s name.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

Then you can check with GRO for a matching one for Thomas.

Thanks for the suggestion Heywood could you please clarify what you are suggesting I do ?

My Great Grandfather was born in London to Irish parents. Would his birth still be recorded in Ireland ?  Also I looked at the birth records for 1879-1881 and the mothers maiden / birth names are not recorded. I do know that her name was Margaret Ward.

Thank you for your assistance

IGNORE all this was working from 1901 Irish Census info;

I also searched Familysearch.Org for Kelly births registered Balrothery, Ireland
(From a bit of googling I think that is the Donabate reg district)

We have;
THOMAS October 1880 / December 1880
CATHERINE April 1882 / June 1882
MARY ANNE July 1884 / September 1884
CHRISTIAN October 1886 / December 1886
MICHAEL    April 1889 / June 1889
BRIDGET October 1894 / December 1894

I have no idea if this is correct but names match!

Heywood knows more about Ireland than me.

Ok, I wish you had let us know earlier you had a maiden name for Thomas's Mother.

GRO Index, fairly new option has now Mothers mn.
You have to register but it is free to search.

Trish
Thanks !

I think that the list you made from FamilySearch is correct - the names all line up with what I have from Ancestry.

I have given you the incorrect name for the mother - I believe it is in fact Mary Murphy (apologies).

I am not sure of the mechanics of how you are sourcing this info, but appreciate it.

So are all birth marriages and deaths of Irish nationals recorded in Ireland even if the events occur overseas?

Regards

 :-\ :-\

Is there any chance that his mother's maiden name was DWYER?

Just looking on Irish genealogy for the births of some of the children that Trish found.

Michael Kelly

Catherine Kelly
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lla/

And then in England. Wandsworth isn't exactly London but ...

DWYER    Mary        Wandsworth    1d   1049
KELLY    Richard        Wandsworth    1d   1049

I almost feel like I'm making all these things up! Just guessing.
