However, the word Kendal appears by the side, I'm not sure why.

That has to be an error on the index. The reference is 10b 104. This is the Volume number for both Newcastle upon Tyne and Kendal Registration Districts, but the page number is too low for it to be Kendal.

Thank you Jen, I thought 'Kendal' seemed a bit strange.   So this is most likely an error.

So this is most likely an error.

Yes. 'Kendal' is in italics, which is a sort of warning sign. If you you click on it the next page indicates that there may well be an error. https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/districts.pl?r=84432516:1069&d=bmd_1518485005

Since the other three entries on the page are all Newcastle this one must be the same.

The entry on freBMD is correct insofar as it has copied what was on the original index, which you can see if you click on the little pair of spectacles next to the entry.

Thank you again, Jen for this additional information.  Now I will know in future that italics are a hint of a warning sign.  You learn new things every day on here. :)

Best Wishes

I'm taking this enquiry off topic, but here is a list of expected page numbers within Volume 10b for 1890
