RootsIreland viewing limit T&Cs warning/moan
« on: Tuesday 13 February 18 06:07 GMT (UK) »
Many of you may already be aware but it was news to me this morning.

I am researching 4 family trees that originate across Ireland.  I subscribed for one month unaware of the viewing limit.  I've 9 days left and have used 1060 of the monthly 1250 record viewing limit.

This limit is written in the T&Cs and a link on the T&Cs is on the invoice but this limit is not publicised at the time of signup, on the invoice or otherwise anywhere else.  Since they tell you how many days left you have on the top of every page I've contacted them to ask that they print an X or Y viewing limit along side it.

Since my ancestors all named their offspring after fathers, uncles, mothers, aunts, brothers etc... they all have the same names and were all born, married and died with months or years of each other.  Being unaware of the limit I have ctrl-clicked on every page of results to display them all to review parents names before discarding.  If I had known of this limit then I would have been more discerning and just clicked one at a time until I got a match.

Since the subscription is not advertised at any point as limited I feel cheated.

Otherwise it is an excellent source with a great deal of detailed and accurate information and I have used it along side other subscription and free sites to verify information.  I would recommend it to others but now I will caution against flippant use.

RootsIreland have quickly responded to my complaint and have given me some more viewing credits.  I think that is very decent of them.

I have suggested they display the limit more prominently and add a viewing counter.

Hi,
This was introduced when "join for a Month" or "Join for a year"  membership.
I had complained about the records when it was "Pay to View"......duplicated with just a "." or Remarks as "Unknown".
I was always getting the warnings, using it too much.
But like everyone else we need to find out our information.
They have other Religions listed, so a bit better and quicker than some sites.
