Look up for a death or burial record in Howden

I am trying to find a burial record for an Elizabeth Simpson aged about 76 in 1871.
I think she died between 1871-1881.
Her daughter Jane Lawley was living in Ellerton Priory in 1871 and Elizabeth lived in Melbourne. I cannot find Elizabeth in any burial records for Melbourne or in the 1881 census.
I think she may have gone to live with her daughter in Ellerton after 1871.
Any help would be appreciated .

The only registration of death that I can find looking anything like remote possibility for Elizabeth:

 Q2/1878, age 84 (1794) - York, Yorkshire East Riding Vol 9d page 23

Thanks Colin I have tried that one before and the registry office said it was not her.
She lived in Melbourne for most of her life.
I have also tried Pocklington but no sign of her.

There's an Elizabeth Simpson who was buried in Howden on 05 November 1877. Abode is given as Keldgate Hospital but she's aged 77 years which would give her a birthdate of around 1800 and would therefore be too young if your stated age of 76 in 1871 is correct.


An Elizabeth Simpson (wife of George Simpson) was buried on 19 March 1874 aged 65 years in Howden. Abode is given as 'Booth'. Again too young if your 1871 information is correct.


ColC's entry which is for someone born around 1794 doesn't appear to fit with the 1871 census information that you mention either.


Are you sure of the abt 1796 birthdate? What ages are listed for her on the censuses of 1861 and 1851?

Elizabeth is aged 56 in 1851 and 66 in 1871.
Her husband was called Joseph Simpson he died in 1863 in Melbourne.
