Hi all, I've been looking into my McFaddens of Aghadowey ancestry again and I want to see if what I've put together makes sense to anyone or any being!
My GG Grandfather Robert McFadden married Sarah Grissam on 19/9/1891 Aghadowey COI.
I know from their marriage cert that Robert's father is Hugh McFadden and I looked on PRONI for YEARS for Robert's birth certificate and never found anything until recently one appeared for a Robert McFadden, son of Hugh McFadden and Elizabeth McCaughey, in the Ballymoney area, which makes sense to me because my grandmother always told me her grandfather was from County Antrim.
However I have since found a marriage certificate for a Hugh McFadden and an Elizabeth McCahon in Garvagh Presbyterian for 17/3/1855, and it seems to fit, Hugh is a blacksmith (like it says on McFadden/Grissam marriage certificate) and they both live in Mullaghinch, Aghadowey. Which fits into my family well.
What puts a spanner in my works is why the family began in Garvagh and Mullahinch, to end up in Ballymoney - seems to be near Dervock from what I can understand - to return to Aghadowey? There's also a change in Elizabeth's maiden name, only slightly, from McCahon to McCaughey - I'm telling myself that in those days certain spellings weren't strictly adhered too, but I also am starting to think I'm just telling myself this to make this story fit.
If anyone could advise or put me out of my misery altogether it would be much appreciated!
