Dating unknown mother and child Leeds, Yorkshire

2 cabinet photos in my uncles collection. I have a possible id if the photos are circa 1900-1902.
The mother would be age 26-28.

What do you think?

Hi, okkool, your pic seems to have dropped almost out of sight.
I'm not an expert but my guess for (what it's worth) is that the photo is a little earlier, more like the early 1880s - I think (but I'm often wrong).
Hopefully an expert will now see it.

Agree with Peter not early Edwardian. My view is late 1870's but we need to see the back if that's possible.

I too thought 70s before I saw any answers. The child looks about 15-18 months...I rather think it could be a boy too.

The attached photo from abt 1930 has the lady I presumed the early photo is of.

What I could find on Samuel Roberts, the photographer, is that he operated at the 115 North st location from mid 1870s to 1885 when he sold the business and building. (A company called Bradford Photography Co operated from that location in late 1880s)

Samuel moved to Blackpool where he is listed as a photographers assistant in 1891. By 1901 he is back to Leeds listed as a tobacconist.

My theory is that he had cabinet card stock left over from his time at North Street and was doing photography on the side.

I have no other family lines living anywhere near Leeds other than this one who moved there in 1900 from Lancashire.

It is quite the mystery.

These cards were sent to friends & family alike. They were quite collectable & many people had albums to show their friends.
