John Parr and Mary Potter (m 12/10/1851)
« on: Wednesday 14 February 18 16:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm researching the descendants of the above couple from the Liverpool area. They were the parents of Elizabeth Parr who married a John Scott on the 18th April 1881. Elizabeth and John were my great-grandparents. Elizabeth had two brothers and a sister. William Parr married Alice Beesley, and Charles Parr married Mary Grimes/Crimes. The sister was called Mary (Polly) but I don't know what happened to her. If anyone else is connected with this family maybe we could compare notes and both save ourselves some time and effort ?
Thanks, Gordon.

The 1861 only shows the 3 children you mention above but 1871 has a 3yr old Polly Parr b Liverpool

Yes, that's the fella ! I think some of his sons were also carters. On John Scott and Elizabeth Parr's marriage certificate his occupation is 'team-driver' which I guess is the same thing.

Thanks ! That looks like a very likely marriage for Mary.  According to the GRO she was born in Q1 1867. I don't know who George Parr is - I've not discovered a George in the family (yet !) but the Arkwright Street is a big coincidence. Charles and Mary were at number 15 when they got married.

Oh dear !!!
In the 1891 census there's a Samuel Vaughan, porter from Liverpool, banged up in HMP in Portland, Dorset. Looks as if it could be the same person. I wonder what he got up to ?

Preston Herald 06 April 1889

A Fruit Porter Samuel Vaughan (age 22) was committed for trial at Liverpool for the willful murder of George Godfrey (team owner) who he struck with on the head with an adze after being refused the loan of one shilling.
