You should be able to turn the notifications off from the settings on your phone I think. If I go to settings and notifications on my iPhone, I have the option to turn off what I don’t want. The other option is to try and change the sound so it isn’t the same as the text message.

You can turn off push notifications using your phone's settings

How do I adjust my mobile push notifications from Facebook?

Mobile push notifications are updates that appear when you're not actively using Facebook. You can adjust these notifications from your Android, iPhone or iPad settings:
iOS
To adjust your mobile push notifications on your iPhone or iPad:

    Tap
    Tap Notifications > Facebook
Tap Allow Notifications to turn on notifications from Facebook. Tap Allow Notifications to turn off notifications from Facebook.

Android
To adjust your mobile push notifications on your Android device (OS 6.0+):

    Go to your device settings.
Tap Applications > Application manager > Facebook > Notifications.
Turn on or off notifications from Facebook.

To adjust your mobile push notifications in your Facebook settings:

    Tap
    Tap Notification Settings
From here, tap to adjust how you get notifications and what you get notified about

Groom - I turned off notifications on my 'phone then sent a text from my OH's 'phone and, of course, no bleep (or Zebedee boing as my OH call's my alert), so that's no good, I won't know when I do receive a genuine text.

Falkryn -  As per the instructions below:

Android
To adjust your mobile push notifications on your Android device (OS 6.0+):

    Go to your device settings.
Tap Applications > Application manager > Facebook > Notifications.
Turn on or off notifications from Facebook.

That's what I tried originally, but as I mentioned I don't have a Facebook app on my 'phone, so I can't get past Application manager

and

To adjust your mobile push notifications in your Facebook settings:

    Tap
    Tap Notification Settings
From here, tap to adjust how you get notifications and what you get notified about

I've already tried that and posted a copy of what I get - oops just noticed it didn't attach itself so I'll try again.  There is no way I can tap to adjust how I get notifications or what I get notified about on my 'phone.  I've turned off all the other notifications possible so I don't get texts and I don't get pop ups on my laptop.

OK, so on my 'phone I click on Settings, then under the list of Devices there is Display, Sound & Notification, Apps, Storage & USB, Battery, Memory.  I click on Apps and get a list of Apps.  So far so good, BUT, I've just realised I don't have Application manager.  However, I clicked on something called Android System WebView where there is something called Notifications which I clicked on as follows:

Block all - Never show notifications from this app (turned off)
Treat as priority - Let this app's notifications be heard when Do Not Disturb is set to Priority only (turned off)
Allow peeking  Let this app emphasise certain notifications by sliding them briefly into view on the current screen (turned on).  Is this the culprit?

Groom - this is not the same notifications that I turned off on text messages.

Sounds as if it could be, try turning that off.

I had to fiddle around with my phone quite a bit when I got a new one recently, as I realised that my emails, texts, Skype messages were appearing as notifications for all to see,  even when the phone was locked.

I'm going to turn that off and see what happens.  I guess if Facebook has only just started these Push Notifications it hasn't been a problem before.

The other problem is my 'phone made by Motorola, it seems it's not possible to change things on the 'phone that can be changed on other Android 'phones and, for instance, you can't use a tune of your own choosing as a phone tone, there's no way to do it you have to use the default tones of Motorola.  I thought it was just me but when I looked on line I saw it was a problem for lots of people and there's no way round it.
