Need help with this baptism entry, and why is the year shown as 1728/9? as it also appears this way in the rest of the page (not shown)

Gulielmus filius Hugomis Symblett et Annæ eius uxori(s)
baptizatus fuit vigessimo septimo die februarij 1728/9

William son of Hugh Symblett and of Ann his wife was baptised on the twenty-seventh day of February 1728/9.

The year is written like that because at this period the new year began on 25 March (Lady Day). So dates between 1 January and 24 March were recorded as being in the previous year.

William son of Hugh Symblett and Anne his wife was baptised on the 27th day of February 1728/9.

Although Scotland had moved New Year's Day to the 1st January over a century earlier, England was still using the old calendar under which the year began on 25th March. Under the old calendar, 27th February was still in 1728, but in Scotland, and by our current reckoning, it was 1729.
