Jeremiah Franklin
« on: Friday 16 February 18 01:47 GMT (UK) »
Jeremiah was born around 1818 in Tennessee. His first wife was Mary Jane and she was born in 1826 in Virginia. I believe that his mothers name is Mary H.. I do not his fathers name. So I would like to know what his first wifes maiden name and her genealogy if possible. And then Jeremiahs parents names. Thank you.

Is this the Jeremiah Franklin who was a Physician?

1850 Williamson Illinois and 1860 Butler County Missouri.

Were you able to glean any information from his civil war records?

I know that his mother Mary H. moved to Yolo, Califorina. He had a few siblings that lived in Yolo as well. One was Benjamin Franklin and hes the one Ive found alot of info on. Yet nothing on his parents.

What happened to Jeremiah & 2nd wife? Sarah between 1864-1870? It appears the family unit was broken up by 1870 with the 2/3 youngest living with other families in Cane Creek, Butler County, Missouri by 1870.

1850 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M85H-C9D

1860 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MHZS-FR9

Son Hannibal 1870 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4XH-61G

Son Leonidas/Lee 1870 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4XH-RQ8

Though Emma doesn't appear with the family in 1860 (b.1863-1864) I think she may be a part of that family? She appears on the same  census page as Hannibal, living with another family. Or just a coincidence?

 Daughter? Emma 1870 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4XH-6BY

It appears Emma is the neice of one the "Scotts"

Jeremiah was arrested 1863 as being a confederate sympathizer. Sent to St Louis for trial 2 May 1863
Ref: Prisoner of War Confederate /citizen of Butler County Missouri --on ancestry.

Ref: Provost Marshall Account
Union
Alton Prison 5 May 1863 reference is Dr. J R Franklin, they have a letter he wrote stating he took an oath of allegiance but was still arrested and the prosecution will not find any charges against him.
He was released on his oath and $1000 bond 28 September 1863.

Emma Franklin was born circa 1864 so he must have died sometime late 1863 through census of 1870.
She is living with Hamilton Scott and family 1870 age 6 and in 1880 age 16 is described as niece
of his widow Elizabeth Scott nee Vandever. Butler County Missouri

Hannibel Franklin  age 12 is living with Henry Rutherford and family 1870.

Have you tried probate court records for Butler County? If he was a physician he probably owned his own home and land, the probate court would also have documents regarding the welfare of the children

Thanks for the info on Jeremiah, thats very interesting. I didnt find any probate records but Ill look again. Does anybody know anything about Jeremiahs siblings. Benjamin born around 1829 is the only one I can get a life story on. His other known siblings were Mary 1831, James 1833, John, 1835, and Willis 1837.
