Dorset Family History Society’s Monthly Meeting
« on: Friday 16 February 18 09:33 GMT (UK) »
Dorset Family History Society will be meeting on Monday 12th March 2018 at St John’s Church Centre Hall, Ashley Road (opposite Waitrose), Upper Parkstone, Poole, BH14 0AA. Doors open at 19.30 for 20.00 start. Everyone welcome. Entry is £2 to include refreshments.

Phil Holt will be giving a fascinating talk entitled ‘Donald Campbell - Across the Lake’.

Loved by 1950’s & 60’s Britain, find out what made the Campbell legend both on water and land and also what pushed him to that final fateful attempt at the world water speed record. Using clever reconstruction, Phil will go behind the scenes of that tragic day in January 1967 to find the cause of the crash. He will finish his talk with the moving recovery of both Bluebird and Campbell himself from Coniston Water, and the restoration efforts currently underway.

Phil Holt is a professional speaker now living in the Bournemouth area, giving talks on cruise ships and around the country. For 40 years he was an air traffic controller, has served as a flying instructor with the RAF reservists, and is still an active pilot. He is involved with the Bournemouth Air Show, especially by raising money for charity at an annual luncheon, and has recently become a guide and lecturer for the RNLI.
